EU launches fund of 500 million for joint purchases on defense

(ANSA) – BRUSSELS, JULY 19 – The EU Commission launches a fund for joint purchases for defense endowed with 500 million euros to strengthen the EU’s industrial military capabilities in two years. “This is a new stage in European defense integration”, announced the EU Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton. The fund, which complements the European Defense Fund, aims to increase the production of heavy weapons and ammunition in the EU and to rebuild European stocks, while also immediately continuing to offer military support to Ukraine. The initiative will be supported by a permanent joint procurement program by the end of the year. (HANDLE).
