(ANSA) – PARIS, 20 JUL – The French president, Emmanuel Macron, calls for a resumption of peace negotiations in the Middle East, recalling that new violence is likely to break out “at any moment”. Receiving Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the Elysée, Macron noted that “violence and terrorism persist in the Middle East”. He then called for “the resumption of direct political dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians”, which today has come to a standstill. “It is an ambitious path, littered with obstacles, but we have no alternative to relaunching our peace efforts,” Macron insisted. Words already spoken a fortnight ago before the Israeli prime minister, Yaïr Lapid. (HANDLE).
