Johnson hails Commons like Terminator, ‘hasta la vista, baby’

(ANSA) – LONDON, 20 JUL – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson left the House of Commons at the end of his last Question Time with an ironic and almost mocking greeting, “hasta la vista, baby”, quoting a phrase made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie ‘Terminator 2’.

As the last vote of the Conservative party is held today to indicate the two candidates who will compete for the seat of Tory leader and next prime minister, Johnson has waged a final confrontation with Labor leader Keir Starmer, sparing no personal attacks. BoJo compared him to “useless” parking bollards, using his well-known colorful language, while Conservative MPs laughed and the courtroom came alive. For his part, Starmer initially wished “the best for the future” on Johnson and his family but then focused on the direct attacks more than anything else against the majority party, highlighting the internal disagreements that characterize the final race to find the new leader.

The outgoing premier reiterated what he had done at the head of the country, speaking of a “largely accomplished mission” and indicated the way to those who will come after him: “We must stay close to the Americans, defend the Ukrainians, defend freedom and democracy everywhere, as well as cutting taxes and deregulating wherever possible to make this country the best place to live and invest “.
