Covid: a mask on public transport returns to Cuba

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 20 – The Cuban government has announced a plan to deal with the increase in cases of dengue and Covid-19 in the country, which includes the return to the mandatory use of masks on collective transport and in kindergartens. This was reported by the state information site Cubadebate.

The plan was approved during a meeting of the Temporary Working Group for the Prevention and Control of Covid-19, chaired yesterday by President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. The mandatory use of the mask had been eliminated since the end of last May on the island, but given the increase in Covid cases in recent weeks, the group has approved new measures to cope with the disease, among which: establish the ” compulsory use of the mask in collective means of transport and in kindergartens; administer the second booster dose to the population between 19 and 49 years of age; launch the first recall for children between 2 and 11 years old in August; encourage the use of masks in groups of people.

The dengue situation was also discussed at the meeting. The prevention group has approved a plan that includes 20 actions, including “the intensification of biological treatment of large water deposits” to prevent the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, responsible for the disease. The plan also provides for the control of “industrial areas and work centers at greatest risk”. Health Minister José Angel Portal Miranda reported that from 11 to 16 July the country recorded the transmission of dengue in eight provinces, 16 municipalities and 23 health districts. (HANDLE).
