(ANSA) – MADRID, JUL 23 – The conditions of a fire that broke out on Thursday in Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands (Spain) have become complicated in the last few hours: as declared on Spanish public television Tve by the mayor of San Juan de la Rambla, a municipality of the island, fire-extinguishing operations are “complex” due to variable winds and other meteorological factors that do not favor their extinction, especially at night. “The entire forest mass of our municipality has been affected,” he added. “This is sad news.”
The flames, which developed while facing very high temperatures in the archipelago, and driven by strong winds, have affected part of the Teide natural park, according to local authorities and media. About 2,000 hectares have been burned so far. About fifty houses were evacuated.
Various areas of Spain have been hit by devastating fires in recent days. (HANDLE).
