France: 150 hectares in smoke in the fire between Herault and Aude

France is counting the damage caused by the fire now tamed and broken out in the Hérault and Aude, where at least 150 hectares of land went up in smoke. About 80 firefighters remain mobilized “to treat the hot spots” and determine the exact surface that has gone up in smoke.
The rain on Friday evening allowed “an improvement in the situation”. Today the risk of fire has remained “high” in five massifs of the Hérault including the Minervois, indicated the prefecture for its part. Excursions to the department that are on alert for the heat wave at least until tomorrow are not recommended.
“The state must listen to us”: on the French side of the Mediterranean, deputies, emergency services officials and regional parks are worried about the “insufficiency” of available air means against the fires. President Emmanuel Macron promised on Wednesday the purchase of more planes to fight the fires, during a trip to Gironde, where two mega-fires destroyed nearly 21,000 hectares of forest.
“The 22 aircraft that the Civil Defense has equipped itself have been sufficient in recent years. Do we need more? The answer is yes”, said Macron.
