California on fire, America in the grip of record heat

(ANSA) – NEW YORK, JUL 24 – California in flames while the United States is in the grip of heat with record temperatures from north to south of the country.

A violent fire, the Oak Fire, which broke out not far from Yosemite Park, California, has forced the evacuation of thousands of people and is keeping firefighters busy day and night trying to contain it. Thanks to the high temperatures and low humidity, the flames increased dramatically in 24 hours, passing from an area of 647 hectares to one of 4,815.

“The fire is moving fast and has grown significantly,” firefighters reported in the latest update, admitting difficulties in taming it. More than 400 firefighters, 40 helicopters and 45 trucks are currently deployed. At least 10 residential and commercial structures were engulfed in flames and many roads were closed.

As the battle for the Oak Fire continues, firefighters have made progress in containing the Washburn Fire, another fire that has broken out in recent days and now appears “79%” tamed.

The high temperatures are also responsible for other wildfires in the United States, where 85 million people still remain under the heat alert today. (HANDLE).
