(ANSAmed) – TEL AVIV, JUL 31 – New tensions between Israel and the Palestinian National Authority after the government of Yair Lapid today decided to deduct 600 million shekels (170 million euros) from the total duties collected on behalf of the ‘NPC and then forwarded to Ramallah. According to official sources, this is precisely the amount that the PNA allocates annually to the payment of monthly salaries to the families of Palestinians detained in Israel for episodes of violence, including serious terrorist attacks.

The deduction, the government specified, will take place in 12 monthly installments. This practice, adopted in recent years, has already aroused vigorous protests on the Palestinian side in the past.

Ramallah’s reaction was not long in coming today.

“The occupying government – wrote on Twitter the general secretary of the PLO executive committee, Hussein a-Sheikh – continues its acts of piracy against the money of the Palestinian people. It is – he added – a policy of theft and of economic siege, one more move that adds to the daily escalation on the ground and the bloodshed of our people “. (ANSAmed).
