(ANSA) – TEHRAN, JUL 31 – A fire fight between Iranian border guards and the Taliban took place today on the border between Iran and Afghanistan. The two sides accuse each other of being responsible for the episode, which according to the Kabul authorities resulted in one death and one wounded among Afghan forces.
The firefight, which lasted a few minutes, took place on the border between the Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchistan and the Afghan province of Nimruz, according to the Iranian agency Irna.
Iran, which had very tense relations with the Taliban during their first regime in Afghanistan, (1996-2001), entered into tactical cooperative relations with some of their factions during the occupation of NATO forces (2001-2021) in anti-American function. But since the Taliban itself returned to power a year ago, it still hasn’t recognized their government.
