New fires in south-eastern France, 4 firefighters injured

(ANSA) – MARSEILLE, JUL 31 – New fires hit southeastern France on Sunday, with 200 hectares burned in the Gard region, where four firefighters were injured – one seriously – and near Marseille, causing the partial closure of highways due to smoking.

“Four firefighters were injured”, writes Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin in a tweet about the fire that broke out around 3 pm in a pine forest in the municipality of Aubais (2,000 inhabitants), south of Nimes, in a department at extreme risk of fires and that from tomorrow at noon will be subjected to an orange alert for heat waves. One of them, “seriously injured”, was evacuated to the hospital in Montpellier for burns, while the other three, slightly injured, were victims of “heat stroke” following the flames that partially destroyed their vehicle, said Colonel Agrinier, who coordinates operations on the spot.
