High tension on the Serbia-Kosovo border, Vucic warns

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 31 – Kosovo authorities closed two border crossings with Serbia tonight for roadblocks put in place by ethnic Serbian Kosovar demonstrators to protest against new laws approved by the government on identity documents and car plates, in effect tomorrow. The dispute has rekindled tensions between Pristina and Belgrade, which does not recognize Kosovo’s independence. International media report that Serbian President Aleksandr Vucic, in a televised speech, showed a map of Kosovo covered by the Serbian flag and warned that if the Serbs are threatened, Serbia will emerge victorious.
