Bulgaria: interim government presented with a view to voting on 2/10

(ANSA) – SOFIA, 02 AUG – In Bulgaria, President Rumen Radev today presented in an official ceremony the temporary government he has appointed to bring the country to an early vote after having dissolved the parliament and the 47th legislature, officially setting the date of the new elections for next October 2nd.

The interim executive is led by Galab Donev (55), presidential advisor for social policy and health.

The parliamentary crisis and the new elections, the fourth in Bulgaria since April last year, came after the vote of no confidence and the resignation of the coalition government led by Kiril Petkov, leader of the liberal party ‘Let’s continue the change’ ( Pp), who led the country for just over seven months. Three failed attempts to form a new government within the same unicameral parliament (240 seats) followed.

“You take responsibility for governing Bulgaria at a difficult time,” Radev said addressing the ministers. “The great challenge is the runaway inflation and the impoverishment of the people, the unbearable prices of fuels and energy sources, the lack of gas for the winter”, continued the president. In his opinion, “there is a real danger that the war in Ukraine will spread to new territories” and therefore “the top priority of the interim government is to protect the country from possible involvement in this conflict”.

“We expect months in which political passions will be incandescent and it is our obligation to restore good tone and productive dialogue. At the same time we have the task of fighting inflation and containing the price of fuel”, said the premier for his part. interim Galab Donev. (HANDLE).
