(ANSA) – NEW YORK, AUGUST 05 – The Situation Room gets a makeover. For the first time in 15 years it undergoes modernization works from which it will emerge more in step with the times, especially from a technological point of view, while maintaining the original appearance of 1961, when it was created under the presidency of John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
The multimillion-dollar renovation project, reports Politico, will begin in a couple of weeks and will be completed in about a year. During the works, all the old equipment, installed in the last wave of works in 2007, will be removed.
The modernization of the Situation Room will in particular be technological to allow United States President Joe Biden, and his successors, to make fundamental decisions in a more skilful and timely manner.
The Situation Room is a historical place. Biden recently authorized the operation to kill al Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahri. In May 2001, Barack Obama followed the raid in which Osama Bin Laden was killed in Pakistan. (HANDLE).
