Kiev, explosions near nuclear reactor power supply

(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 06 – Energoatom, the Ukrainian state operator of the country’s nuclear power plants, declared that 3 explosions were recorded at the site of the Zaporizhzhia plant, near one of the power blocks of the nuclear reactor. Ukraine said Russian bombings hit a nuclear power plant line, the largest in Europe and located in the south-east of the country, but no radioactive leaks were detected. Energoatom said a high-voltage power line at the plant was hit by Russian bombing today, but the plant is still functioning, the Guardian reported.

The plant is located in Russian-controlled territory and the bombing of the site is the subject of mutual accusations between Moscow and Kiev. The Russian Defense Ministry, quoted by state press agencies, asked “international organizations to condemn the criminal actions of the Zelensky regime, which carries out acts of nuclear terrorism”.
