(ANSA) – TUNIS, 06 AUGUST – The Tunisian Coast Guard blocked, on the night between 5 and 6 August, “17 sea border crossing operations”, rescuing 255 migrants aboard boats in distress in the central region of the country. This was announced by the spokesman for the National Guard of Tunis on his official facebook page, specifying that 170 of the rescued migrants are of different African nationalities, the rest Tunisians. As part of the preventive operations to combat the phenomenon of illegal migration, on 5 August 2022, the units of the National Guard arrested 5 people in the Sousse region “who were preparing to participate in an illegal migration operation”, reads the Note.
