The twins’ manager Baldelli angrily reacts to the voided call in the loss to Jays

Apparently diamonds are not man’s best friend. At least not on a Sunday night in Minnesota.

Twins coach Rocco Baldelli was furious after replay officials overturned a crucial decision — giving the Toronto Blue Jays a decisive run in the 10th inning — even though the referees had already flagged the team’s running back.

The referee ruled that the Twins’ catcher Gary Sanchez did not give the Blue Jays’ Whit Merrifield a clear path to home plate, a decision that gave the team what would eventually become the game’s winner.

The Twins’ manager quickly stormed the field after deciding to tell the referees what he thought and soon found himself sent off.

After the 3-2 loss, Baldelli called the incident “one of the most cowardly things I’ve ever seen on a baseball field”.

“I think this is one of the worst moments we’ve ever seen as an umpire in any baseball game he’s played in,” Baldell said. “I think it was embarrassing what just came out.”

The Twins’ manager revealed that he did not receive an explanation for the reversal before calling the incident one of the worst refereeing moments he has ever seen.

It’s embarrassing for our game, for all the players on both sides of the field.

“This is completely unacceptable. I can’t believe I’m sitting here talking to you about this.

Blue Jays shortstop Whit Merrifield moved into third and was eliminated as a result, before Twins catcher Gary Sanchez voided the call, and it was decided he illegally interfered.

According to the referees, Merrifield did not have a clear path back home. Had the original decision been valid, Toronto’s entry would have ended, giving Minnesota a chance to tie the game in two.

Instead, the decision put the Blue Jays 3-2 at the top of 10th, with the score remaining unchanged despite a strong effort from the home side.

Merrifield, the winner of the game, spoke to the media after the game and explained how he saw the situation in real time.

“I had a feeling there was going to be a turn on the plate,” he said.

‘[I] I saw Gary circling home plate, trying as hard as he could to slide into it, right into it, as hard as I could.

“I know what the rule is, it was just a matter of them calling her.”

And indeed they did. This infuriated Baldelli and his hometown fans, who booed the referees immediately after the call-up and result.

Baldel was sent off for the third time this season and the eighth of his career.

Baldelli and the twins are expected to regroup before traveling to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers on Tuesday night.
