Villa where Picasso stayed for sale for 27 million euros

(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 09 – An important property with a respectable history is for sale: in France, in fact, the Antibes villa where Pablo Picasso stayed is on the market for 27 million euros (excluding notary fees). Nicknamed ‘La Vigie’, the neo-Gothic mansion built in 1912 by architect Lucien Stable has been available since the beginning of August, writes the French edition of the Huffington Post.

In the summer of 1924, Picasso established his workshop for some time in the annex of the house where he painted some paintings, some of which were inspired by the villa and the bay of the French Riviera city, Juan-les-Pins. The famous artist even used the walls of the bedrooms and living rooms of the villa as his canvases, but the owner complained about it, forcing him to bring them back white: a choice certainly regretted by the heirs of the property.

The villa has eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a billiard room and a swimming pool, enjoys unparalleled views over the bay of Juan-les-Pins and also has direct access to the sea, with a dock and a garage. The residence has also hosted the likes of Paul Morand, André Gide, Jean Cocteau, Mistinguett and Maurice Chevalier, and was owned by American billionaires as well as writer Francis Scott Fitzgerald.
