India: Rahul Gandhi-Narendra Modi clash over ‘black magic’

(ANSA) – NEW DELHI, AUGUST 11 – “Our premier should stop debasing his role”: with this tweet in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party reacted to the accusations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Yesterday the premier, without explicitly mentioning them, criticized the opposition party members who demonstrated against the rise in rice prices and unemployment, dressed entirely in black. “Someone is trying to spread black magic,” Modi said. “These people think that by wearing black clothes they can hide their insignificance. They do not understand that witchcraft, black magic and superstition do not help to win back the consensus of the voters.”

“Modi should be serious and give answers to Indians on the country’s problems”, countered Gandhi. (HANDLE).
