(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 11 – France closed the Biriatou border crossing again today due to the vast fire in the Gironde region that advanced in the Landes area after burning almost 7,000 hectares. The closure caused a significant traffic jam, up to five kilometers, in the Spanish city of Irún, in the province of Guipuzco. The vehicles are all lined up on one side of the road. The Pais reports it.
The passage is open for other vehicles but cars are diverted to the A-64 to bypass surrounding fire area.
Many of the trucks are turning back because all the nearby truck parks are full. The forecast is that the border crossing will only reopen in the late afternoon.
