Japan has more infections in the world for the third week

(ANSA) – TOKYO, AUGUST 13 – Japan has recorded the highest number of Covid infections of any other country in the world for the third week in a row. To say it is the World Health Organization (WHO), after updating the data globally for individual nations, with a total in the first week of this month at 6,980,500 cases, 3% more than seven days previous. With its almost 1.5 million infections (+ 9%) between 1 and 7 August, Japan represents about 20% of the entire world series.

Cases of deaths are also worrying, with just over 1,000 deaths, a figure that places the Land of the Rising Sun in fourth place, after the United States, Brazil and Italy. The WHO specifies that the figures could be higher, however, because some countries have changed the way they administer tampons to considerably reduce the amount of tests available.

The BA.5 variant of Omicron is currently the dominant strain in Japan with almost the majority of cases detected in late July. With the official start of the summer holidays in mid-August, starting today, in anticipation of the anniversary of the Obon, which commemorates and remembers the dead, the Japanese authorities have preferred to limit restrictions on commercial activities and the movement of people .
