(ANSA) – TUNIS, AUGUST 13 – On National Women’s Day, the Tunisian Post Office pays tribute to 22 women who have most influenced the country’s history with the issue of 22 stamps that will be offered for sale from today.
The goal of the initiative, reads a press release from the Post Office, is to help “revive the collective memory and give visibility to the action of women in the North African country”.
Today we celebrate the 66th anniversary of the entry into force of the Code on the statute of the person (Family Code) in 1956, a revolutionary code – for the times and for an Arab country – in terms of women’s rights, with the abolition of polygamy and the possibility of divorce.
Among the personalities portrayed in the new stamps Fatma Haddad, Maya Jribi and Zaara Soltani. (HANDLE).
