(ANSA) – NAIROBI, AUGUST 13 – Gideon Mungaro, the former manager of the resort in Kenya ‘Lion In The Sun’, owned by Flavio Briatore and located in Malindi, is the new governor of Kilifi County. The website malindikenya.net reports it. The tourist destination Watamu is also part of the coastal region, which together with Malindi is frequented by thousands of Italians and with numerous tourist activities managed by our compatriots.
Mungaro, who was also mayor and parliamentarian of Malindi and is outgoing undersecretary of the Ministry of Territorial Planning, was a candidate in the general elections for the Orange Democratic Movement (Odm) party of the opposition leader, Raila Odinga. The Odm is part of the Azimio La Umoja coalition, also supported by the current president, Uhuru Kenyatta.
The counting of the votes of the presidential elections, which see Odinga as candidate against the vice-president William Ruto, of the Kenya Kwanza coalition, is still in progress after the appointment with the polls on Tuesday 9 August. The delays are due to the delivery of the registers of some of the 292 constituencies and to the allegations of fraud by Azimio La Umoja candidates against their opponents. (HANDLE).
