(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 15 – It is likely that Moscow is in an advanced planning phase to hold a referendum in the self-proclaimed republic of Donetsk (Dpr) with the aim of annexing it to Russia: British intelligence writes in the his daily update on the situation in the country.
However, continues the report published by the Ministry of Defense on Twitter, it is still unclear whether the final decision to proceed with the vote has been taken or not.
Meanwhile, the report recalls that on 11 August the Russian media reprinted statements by the leader of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, according to which the date of the referendum will be announced after the “complete liberation” of the self-proclaimed republic.
Earlier, last June, investigative journalists had published evidence of a DPR plan that included a referendum and that would have secured at least 70% of the votes in favor of a union with Russia. (HANDLE).
