Kenya: the defeated Odinga announces appeals

(ANSA) – NAIROBI, AUGUST 16 – The presidential candidate of Kenya Raila Odinga has rejected the results of the independent electoral commission that announced yesterday, through the voice of its president Wafula Chebukati, rival William Ruto as the new president of the Republic.

In a press conference broadcast by national broadcasters, the opposition leader declared the electoral process invalid by announcing that his coalition Azimio La Umoja will take all possible legal avenues to assert its reasons.

“What we saw yesterday was a parody and blatant disregard for Kenya’s constitution,” Odinga said at a press conference the day after the election results were announced.

“Our opinion is clear: the data announced by Chebukati must be annulled by a court – said Odinga – In our opinion, there is neither a legally and validly declared winner nor an elected president”.

Odinga also cited the divisions within the electoral commission and appealed to his constituents: “I want to commend our supporters for keeping calm and peace and I urge them to continue to do so. Let no one take the law into their own hands. hands. Justice will prevail. ” He concluded. (HANDLE).
