(ANSA) – BERLIN, AUGUST 16 – “I want to say clearly that I don’t agree with the use of the word apartheid and I don’t think it describes the situation correctly” in Israel. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this today, commenting on the words at a press conference by Abu Mazen, president of the PNA, on a visit to Berlin. Abbas later declared that “since ’47 Israel has committed 50 massacres in 50 Palestinian localities”, speaking of “50 Holocausts”. Scholz listened to these words with visible irritation, but without comment. The press conference ended immediately afterwards: a spokesman later reported that Scholz was outraged by what Abbas (ANSA) had said.
