(ANSA) – KIEV, AUG 22 – Nearly 9,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the Russian invasion, said Valeriy Zaluzhny, commander-in-chief of the armed forces of Ukraine, as reported by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency .
Zaluzhny said in a forum that Ukrainian children need special attention “because their fathers have gone to the front and perhaps nearly 9,000 heroes have been killed”. Ukrainian officials rarely provided details of military casualties in nearly six months of the war. The latest estimate dates back to April, when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that up to 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed and 10,000 wounded. (HANDLE).
