(ANSA) – MADRID, 22 AUGUST – The damage caused in recent weeks by the fires that have hit various provinces in Spain represent a severe “psychological blow” both for the inhabitants directly affected by the problem and for the rest of the country. This was stated by the premier, Pedro Sánchez, during a visit to the province of Castellón (Valencian Community), seriously affected by some fires in recent days. The governor of this region, Ximo Puig, had also expressed the same concept earlier.
“In 2012, the worst year so far in terms of hectares burned, 116,000 hectares were charred, last year 50,000 and this year 223,000”, added Sánchez, who recalled that “a climate emergency” is being faced. “Now we have to face the phase of recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas”. (HANDLE).
