Cuba, citizens can buy dollars, maximum 100

The Cuban government has opened the possibility for citizens to buy dollars, or other currencies, at an advantageous price and better than the official exchange rate from state exchange agencies.
The news emerged during a round table held on public TV with the participation of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Alejandro Gil Fernández, and the President of the Central Bank (Bcc), Marta Sabina Wilson González, who offered details on the opening of the foreign exchange market on the Caribbean island.
The decision, Gil Fernández pointed out, will guarantee more purchasing power to the peso, recalling that 20 days ago the State began buying foreign currency.
For her part, the president of the Bcc has announced that in recent days, with the new method, ten times more foreign currency has been purchased than what would have been obtained if the exchange rate had been the official one of 24 pesos per dollar. The greenback, writes the Granma newspaper today, will be bought at 110.40 Cuban pesos and sold at 123.60 pesos.
The deputy premier then added that the sale of the currencies will take place in state exchange agencies (Cadeca). The payment will be in cash, as there is no way to link the transactions with the accounts that people have in banks.
37 exchange agencies have been identified, concluded Gil Fernández, in the provincial capitals and in some municipalities.
The amount of dollars that each individual will be able to buy has currently been fixed at 100, and the mechanism introduced for the moment will be that the agencies will be able to sell only the dollars they have received from citizens and which in general are those that arrive in Cuba through remittances. of family members abroad.
