(ANSA) – ISTANBUL, AUG 23 – The normalization of relations between Turkey and Israel does not mean that Ankara will abandon its support for the Palestinian cause. This was reiterated by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, as reported by Anadolu, adding that Turkey and Israel “in the coming days” will mutually appoint ambassadors.
In 2018, the heads of diplomatic missions in their respective countries had been withdrawn after Turkey’s criticism of Israel following clashes in the Gaza Strip.
After years of complicated relations, starting this year the two countries have embarked on a process of normalization of relations which has been defined by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as “a new page” in relations. (HANDLE).
