(ANSA) – LONDON, AUGUST 23 – The number of people crossing the English Channel in small boats from northern France to Great Britain has reached a new peak: this was announced by the government of London. In fact, yesterday about 1,295 people were detected, a figure that beats the previous daily record of 1,185 recorded on 11 November 2021, according to the Ministry of Defense.
There have been around 22,670 crossings so far in 2022, almost double the same period in 2021. Last year, British authorities intercepted and brought back a total of 28,526 people trying to cross the English Channel. The issue also sparked tensions between London and Paris, with the British government accusing France of not doing enough to stop migrants. (HANDLE).
