(ANSA) – CAIRO, AUGUST 26 – It fell to 51.07%, but when 97.03% of the ballots have now been scrutinized, the result for President Joao Lourenco’s “Mpla” party in the elections held yesterday in Angola. The “Unita” formation of the charismatic opposition leader Adalberto Costa Junior known as “ACJ” is collecting 44.05% according to what is published on the website of the National Electoral Commission.
So far the distribution of seats is 124 for the MPA and 90 for Unita with two parliamentarians for three of the other six parties in the running. With only seven points of difference between MPLA and UNita, this year’s election is therefore confirmed as the most fought-in election since (1992) when multi-partyism was introduced in Angola.
