Tunisia: Saied al Ticad, a new development model for Africa is needed

(ANSA) – TUNIS, AUGUST 27 – “Today we need a new approach to development in Africa based on social justice and human rights”. These are the words of Tunisian President Kais Saïed at the opening of the eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (Ticad 8). “It is no longer tolerable today that the African people, who have enormous wealth, live in social injustice and are deprived of development”, said in his speech in the presence of the Senegalese President, Macky Sall, of the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida ( via Zoom) and 20 African heads of state and government.

Saïed also stressed the need to invent new mechanisms to guarantee development in Africa, adding that it is not possible to achieve the desired results without the establishment of stable political regimes, the guarantee of social justice and the consecration of human rights provided for by international law. .

“We need to take a new step in human history together and look to the future to ensure success,” he said. In this context, Saied praised the experience of Japan which, according to him, was able to become a world power in a very short time, preserving its traditions and culture. Ticad 8, according to Saied “is an opportunity to discuss many issues and to make an objective reading of the past in order to go through a new phase together in order to guarantee all the conditions favorable to the development and creation of jobs and wealth” .
