British authorities yesterday intercepted 915 migrants who had just crossed the English Channel on 19 small boats. This was announced today by the British Ministry of Defense, according to reports from the Dpa.
In total, more than 25,000 people have already made the dangerous crossing this year, including nearly 9,000 in the last month alone. Migrants are a thorn in the side of the conservative government. Regaining control of Britain’s borders was one of the central promises of the Brexit campaign. In June, the London government reached an agreement with the Rwandan government to transport some migrants to Rwanda after their arrival. The United Nations considers this agreement a violation of international law.
In 2021 alone, around 28,526 people crossed the English Channel to Great Britain.
