United Airlines reported that a mechanical problem was responsible for the incident; aircraft was at 24 thousand feet
A flight from New York, United States, bound for Guarulhos airport, had to be interrupted at dawn on Thursday, 22, after starting to shoot sparks in the air minutes after takeoff. According to the website Flightradar24, which monitors flights, the plane climbed to an altitude of 24,000 feet, followed an area over the ocean and had to make five turns before being able to return to the airport. In a video shared on the social network by a profile called @variablecraft, it is possible to see the exact moment when the incident happens and a person screaming desperately, while showing the sparks falling near the cars that were parked at the airport. In a statement, United Airlines, responsible for United Flight 149, said the cause of the incident was “a mechanical problem” and explained that the plane remained in the air to burn fuel, but added that it later landed safely. According to the company, all passengers disembarked are fine.
