The scene took place in the heart of the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá, in Mexico, a few days ago. After climbing the steps of the Kukulcàn pyramid, a Spanish tourist drew the wrath of the crowd present on the spot before being arrested. It is forbidden to access the place, which is part of the seven wonders of the world.

The videos have gone viral on social media. Those of a Spanish tourist who attracts the wrath of dozens of people after climbing the steps of the pyramid of Kukulcàn, within the Mayan city of Chichén Itzá, in Mexico. The monument, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007, is one of the seven wonders of the world. To preserve the place, it is therefore strictly forbidden to climb its steps, under penalty of a fine of 5,000 euros.

The tourist booed and expelled from the site

On the videos, we see the visitor climbing the steps while taking a photo of herself, then doing a few dance steps at the top of the monument, intended to be published on the social network TikTok, before being arrested by a guard. At the bottom of the monument, the crowd awaits him, booing and chanting “jail!”. Once down, the Spanish tourist was arrested and escorted out of the site. But the crowd continues to follow her. Many people insult him, pull his hair and throw water in his face.

The tourist and her companion were arrested by the local police, who opened a verbalization procedure against them. Chichén Itzá, built between the 8th and 9th centuries, is one of the most important and visited archaeological sites in Mexico. This is not the first time that visitors have tried to access the monument.
