Acts were motivated by the death of ten people in a fire inside an apartment that would have had the rescue postponed because of the severe anti-Covid-19 measures
Protests against the “Covid zero” policy spread across China and call for the resignation of the country’s supreme leader, Xi jinping
Protesters took to the streets of Shanghai, Chinathis Sunday, 27th, to ask that the supreme leader of the country, Xi Jinping, resign from office and the end of the Chinese Communist Party. People protest against extremely strict anti-war measures.Covid-19 enforced by the Chinese president and clashed with the police. The action is a challenge to the highest authority in the country, which lives in a closed political regime under the command of the single communist party, also led by Xi Jinping. Demonstrations are reported to have spread to at least seven other cities in addition to China’s financial capital, including the official capital Beijing and dozens of university campuses. Large-scale protests are rare in China, as public expressions of dissent are routinely stifled.
Currently, China is the only major country that is still trying to stop the transmission of Covid-19 through lockdowns and severe isolations, in its “Covid zero” policy, which can last for weeks. Last Friday the 25th, 10 people died in an apartment fire. Some people believe that the rescue was delayed because of excessive lockdown measures. The situation sparked a weekend of protests. A group of protesters took candles, flowers and posters in honor of those who died in the fire to the locality. Another group, according to a protester who requested anonymity, was more active, shouting slogans and singing the national anthem. The atmosphere at the protest encouraged people to speak out on topics considered taboo, including the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, in which the Communist Party ordered troops to fire on pro-democracy student protesters, an unidentified protester said.
