O Pope Francis once again offered to mediate peace talks between Russia and Ukraine🇧🇷 Since the beginning of the conflict, the Vatican has offered to help in possible negotiations between the countries. Even without a response from the Russian and Ukrainian authorities, this Sunday, the 27th, Paul Richard Gallagher, secretary of the Holy See for relations with States, declared that the pontiff “has been available since the beginning of the war”: “The Holy See remains always available and, if it is opportune and necessary to offer and make available these environments, as we have done in the past, the Holy Father would positively welcome a proposal that comes from both parties with good intentions and the spirit of seeking peace”. The conflict began nine months ago and still seems far from over. The Pope has already been invited several times to visit Kiev, but he always replied that he would also like to go to Moscow, to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, the Kremlin showed no signs of opening up.

This Sunday, during the traditional Angelus Prayer, Francis stressed: “Let us not get tired of saying no to war and violence, but yes to dialogue and peace. Mainly for the martyred Ukrainian people”. The Pope also lamented the tragedy that occurred on the Italian island of Ischia, off the coast of Naples, where a landslide caused at least three deaths and left more than ten missing: “I pray for the victims, for those who suffer and for all who intervened to help. ”. There, more than 200 members of the civil defense and security forces are still looking for missing people.
