The princes’ arrival was overshadowed by a racist incident involving one of their godmothers; they will spend three days on US soil
Princes of Wales return to US after eight years
Eight years after the first and last voyage of the Princes of Wales, william and Kateto the United Statesthey returned to the country ruled by Joe Biden on Wednesday the 30th, and the head of state will meet on Friday, as announced by the White House. “The President plans to greet the Prince and Princess of Wales when they are in Boston. However, we are still working and finalizing the details,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters. Biden will travel to Boston for a Democratic Party fundraiser, while the heir to the British crown and his wife visit the city for an awards ceremony. It is not yet clear where the meeting will take place. The princes, who will stay in the US for three days, were received by the governor of Massachusetts, Republican Charlie Baker, and, in addition to meeting Biden, on Friday they will be present at the Earthshot environmental awards ceremony, which recognizes those who develop solutions to “repair the planet” and regenerate natural resources. William and Kate’s entire agenda is focused on environmental issues and aid programs for the most underprivileged communities. “Catherine and I are delighted to be back in the United States and extremely grateful to Governor Baker and the First Lady of Massachusetts for their warm welcome in Boston,” William said in a statement after disembarking.
Despite the warm welcome, they arrive in the country haunted by a racist incident involving one of their godmothers, who insisted on knowing the “true” origin of a black British activist at a reception at Buckingham Palace, in London. “Racism has no place in our society,” said a spokesman for the princes in Boston, assuring that these “comments are unacceptable and it is fair that the person has withdrawn with immediate effect,” he said referring to Susan Hussey, a of her six godmothers and a trusted person from Queen Elizabeth II🇧🇷 William was not involved in the decision but “believes” it was “the right thing to do” and “will not comment further”, added the spokesperson. This is the couple’s first overseas visit since William became heir to the British throne in September, when his father became King Charles III after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. The couple’s last visit to the United States dates back to 2014, when the two were in New York and Washington, a trip that included a reception at the White House with the then American president, Barack Obama, and his vice, Joe Biden, now head of the Executive.
