By announcing Zelensky as the winner, Time stated that the Ukrainian leader inspired his people and was recognized by other global leaders for his conduct during the resistance to the invasion of Russia that began in 24 of February. “Whether the battle for Ukraine fills you with hope or fear, Volodymyr Zelensky galvanized the world in a way we haven’t seen in decades,” said Edward Felsenthal, editor of Time. During the war, Zelensky refused to leave the capital Kiev and is often seen visiting other cities attacked by the Russians. Iran’s female protesters were chosen in the “Heroes of the Year” category. Time has maintained this tradition since 1927. In 2021, the billionaire Elon Musk received the title of the magazine.
