Deposed Peruvian President Pedro Castillo is taken to a police base in Lima

Politician must remain in prison and under investigation at the Special Operations Board for 15 days

The ousted president of Peru🇧🇷 Pedro Castillowas taken to a police base located in the east of the nation’s capital, lime🇧🇷 He was arrested after being removed from office for an attempted coup d’état, after announcing that he would dissolve parliament and establish a State of Exception, with measures such as a curfew for the population and the appointment of a new national constituent. Castillo was transported by helicopter from the city of Lima to the base of the Special Operations Directorate of the police, in the district of Ate, where he will be detained for up to 15 days, under investigation. Outside the police station, despite the turmoil, there were only small-scale clashes between protesters and riot police. Castillo is charged with the crimes of “rebellion” and “conspiracy” for breaking the constitutional order.

Despite trying to dissolve the congress, in a last attempt to stay in power, avoiding an impeachment, Castillo was tried and deposed last Wednesday, the 7th. In less than three hours, he went from announcing his coup measures, suffering a impeachment process, being arrested and replaced in office by his deputy, Dina Boluarte – the first woman to hold the position in Peru. He was removed from office by 101 votes in favor, 6 against and 10 abstentions. For his part, in his first speech as head of the nation, Boluarte called for a political truce after months of instability, including two previous impeachment attempts, and said that a new cabinet, including all political hues, would be formed. Despite this, she also starts a weakened administration, without a party and expressive support from the population.
