8mmx6mm object fell from truck in Perth and is considered ‘potentially deadly’
Tiny radioactive capsule has deadly potential and mobilizes authorities to be found
An radioactive capsule tiny was lost while being transported by truck from a mine to a warehouse in the city of Perth, Australia, and a massive search was launched. Authorities issued an alert for nearby regions because the capsule is “potentially deadly”. The cargo measures 8 mm x 6 mm and may have fallen from the rear of the vehicle, which traveled 1,400 km. Emergency services complain about the lack of help and more effective equipment for the search. “We’re using radiation detectors to locate the gamma rays,” said Fire Department Superintendent Darryl Ray. The concern is that the capsule got stuck in the wheel of another vehicle and traveled ‘kilometers away’. The government waited two days to inform the public. Director of Health Andrew Robertson defended the authorities’ decision, saying it was important to survey the mine and warehouse, as well as the truck’s route, before issuing the alert.
