Diane Gordon found the money when she returned from work, and even though she was experiencing difficulties, she did not think about keeping the amount: ‘If you find something that doesn’t belong to you, you don’t keep it’
A woman, identified as Diane Gordon, who lives in Michigan, in the U.S, found $15,000 (about R$75,000) while walking to work and earned more than double the reward for returning the money to the owners. Even in a vulnerable situation, she said in an interview with Fox that she didn’t think about keeping the amount. Gordon told the press how it all happened. “I looked at the floor and found a plastic bag with a large amount of money in it. When I took it there was more money”, said the woman. According to Lieutenant Matthew Ivory, “inside the bag there were also wedding cards, they were gifts from a wedding that took place that day”. The officers were touched by the situation and Gordon’s good deed, who could have used the money to fix her car, which prevents her from going to her grandchildren’s sporting events. Moved by the situation, they started a campaign on the GoFoundMe website to help the woman raise money and fix her car. The goal was to raise US$ 25,000, but they managed to raise more than R$ 200,000, more than double what was found on the street. Gordon was thrilled with the situation. “I’m chocked. I mean, I didn’t do anything special. If you find something that doesn’t belong to you, you don’t keep it,” she said, adding that she didn’t deserve this attention.
