Fundraising for father and child portraits photos drama Syria

(ANSA) – SIENA, OCTOBER 29 – Siena awards, a festival of visual arts in progress in the Tuscan city, has launched a fundraiser to help Munzir and Mustafa, father and son without limbs immortalized in the shot ‘Hardship of Life’ by Turkish photographer Mehmet Aslan, which has become a symbolic image of the Syrian drama.

The photo, which won Sipa 2021, went around the world, “thanks to the emotional charge that one feels – underlines by the Siena awards – looking at Munzir and Mustafa” portrayed “in an embrace and a smile that go beyond the disability due to the war in Syria and its social and health consequences “.

The objective of the fundraising “is to help change the lives of Munzir and Mustafa, to give them a future and to rekindle the spotlight on Syria’s international drama.

Munzir lost his right leg to a bomb dropped while walking in a bazaar in Idlib, Syria, while his son Mustafa was born without his lower and upper limbs as a result of tetramelia, a malformation caused by taking drugs from part of the mother Zeynep also hit by nerve gas during the war in Syria.

Mustafa will need electronic prostheses in the future which, unfortunately, are not yet available in Turkey at the moment. “

Any overfunding will be donated to Doctors Without Borders and will be aimed at a rehabilitation and support program for people who have suffered amputations due to the war in Syria. The fundraiser was opened on the GoFundMe platform: to contribute: https://www.gofundme.com/f/can-a-photo-make-a-difference.
