Russian diplomacy has reached new heights. At the G20 summit in India, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, was ridiculed because of his statements about the war in Ukraine.

When Lavrov announced that Russia in Ukraine was “stopping” the war that was allegedly launched against the aggressor state, those present in the hall burst into laughter, at the same time, indignant exclamations from the summit participants reached the stage. A video from the moment of the shame of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry appeared on the network.

Sitting on stage at the Raisina Dialogue forum in New Delhi, India on March 3, Lavrov said that Russia, which more than a year ago launched a full-scale unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and occupied parts of four Ukrainian regions in addition to those previously captured by Crimea, “defended itself from attack.”

“The war that we are trying to stop, and which was launched against us with the use of the Ukrainian people, of course, influenced Russian policy, in particular energy policy,” the Russian Foreign Minister began to say.

At this point, those present in the hall burst into loud laughter, and some of the forum participants indignantly tried to refute such a blatant lie.

Laughter in response to another attempt to pass off black for white momentarily unbalanced even such a “hardened” representative of the Russian authorities as Lavrov, he stumbled in the middle of the phrase, and subsequently continued his tirade, despite the fact that the laughter did not subside.

In his speech, the Russian Foreign Minister also said that Russia, they say, “will not allow Western partners to blow up gas pipelines,” alluding to Russian accusations of explosions at Nord Stream against the United States.

“In two words, what has changed is that we will no longer rely on any partners in the West, we will not allow them to blow up gas pipelines again,” Lavrov stressed.

He also made a nod to China and India, whose support Moscow wants to be engaged. In the future, Russia plans to deepen cooperation with these “more reliable partners,” Lavrov said.

Interestingly, the video with Lavrov’s speech, during which he was ridiculed by the summit participants, was first published on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s YouTube channel, however, it was subsequently promptly deleted.

Recall that the G20 summit started in India on March 2 and will last until Saturday, March 4. Even before its start, it was reported that the key topic of the event would be the war in Ukraine, its nature and prospects for the end of the hot phase.

Ahead of the summit, it became known that the United States and its G-7 allies were pushing for a communiqué at the end of the event to contain a direct condemnation of Russia for invading Ukraine. The Russian and Chinese delegations are categorically against such a wording. Therefore, a joint statement of the participants, traditional for such summits, can hardly be expected.

It was also reported that on the sidelines of the summit, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met with Lavrov for the first time since the start of a full-scale war. The conversation lasted about 10 minutes. Blinken called on Russia to release the illegally detained American Paul Whelan, as well as to resume participation in the nuclear arms control agreement, which was recently “suspended” by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Blinken also assured Lavrov that the United States would continue to support Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.
