According to EMSC, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles).
The quake struck in the coastal region of Guayas, with an epicenter about 80 km south of Guayaquil, Ecuador’s second largest city.
According to the Pacific Tsunami Prevention Center, there is no such threat.
USGS computer models have determined that up to 13.5 million people could have felt the quake. Of these, 5.1 million people felt “strong” or “very strong” aftershocks.
