Cameron Robbins was on a high school graduation trip; case happened on May 24 and searches for the body were suspended a week later
A video shared this week on social networks shows the exact moment when Cameron Robbins, an 18-year-old, disappeared into the sea of Bahamas after jumping off the boat he was on with friends celebrating his high school graduation. The case happened on May 24, three days after he graduated, and there is still no evidence about the boy, however the sea he jumped into is known to have sharks. In the recording, it is possible to see Robbins swimming a few meters from the boat and disappearing seconds later, which generated a real uproar among the people who were on the vessel. Some people on social networks even said that in the first few seconds it is possible to see a shark circling the boy. For days the coast guard of the U.S searched the region near Athol Island – where the case happened -, however, the search was unsuccessful, according to statements to the British newspaper ‘Daily Mail’. The crew members also helped with the searches, but found nothing. Last week the search for the body was suspended.
The jump into the sea happened around 21:40 (22:40 in Brasilia) after Cameron was challenged to dive. According to the US Coast Guard District, the search has been suspended pending further developments. “We were informed by the RBDF this evening that they were suspending active search efforts pending further developments and were not requesting further assistance from the Coast Guard after notifying Robbins’ family. We offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Cameron Robbins,” reads the statement. The young man’s family commented on the decision and said they thanked the Bahamian government, the US Coast Guard, the United Cujan Navy and Congressman Garrett Graves for their help. The director of the school where the young man studied, the U-High (University Laboratory School), also manifested himself through social networks. “At times like these, we need to come together as a family to pray and support each other. Please join us in praying for Cam, his family and everyone involved in the search.”
