India promises ‘severe punishments’ for those responsible for train crash that left at least 288 dead

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, promised “severe punishments” to those responsible for the serious accident between trains, which occurred on Friday, 2, which left 288 people dead and 850 injured. “The government will spare no efforts to treat the injured. Soon after, a second train collided with the first. A third freight train was also involved in the accident. Indian Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said an “in-depth” investigation was launched to identify the causes of the accident, which is considered India’s biggest railway catastrophe in over 20 years. The Indian railway network is, with a length of 68 thousand kilometers, the fourth in the world, after the United States, Russia and China. It has 21,650 trains and 7,349 stations across the country, in addition to transporting around 23 million passengers daily.
