Naval exercises begin in Estonia, in which 50 NATO ships take part: details

Saturday, June 3rd This year’s largest exercise in the Baltic Sea, Baltops 23, has started in Estonia. The training is attended by 50 NATO warships and about 6,000 military personnel of the naval, land and air forces.

In particular, the allies will work out, among other things, anti-submarine and air defense, ammunition disposal and medical rescue operations.

To the exercises, which will continue until June 16, Estonia has been preparing for about three years. According to the Commander of the Estonian Navy Commodore Juri Saska, there have never been so many ships in Tallinn before.

The largest ship to arrive in Tallinn was Mount Whitney. The vessel belongs to the US 6th Fleet and from where the entire operation is controlled.

“We are conducting these exercises to build confidence between NATO forces, to ensure good cooperation and operational capabilities so that when we find ourselves in a combat situation, we can combine our forces and act as a single unit,” said Vice Admiral Thomas. Ishi, commander of the US 6th Fleet.

Recall that on Monday, May 8, the largest exercises of the Special Operations Forces of the NATO countries Junction Strike 2023 began in Romania. They continued until May 18.
