Shooting on Israel-Egypt border kills four soldiers

On Saturday, June 3, there was a conflict with shooting on the border between Israel and Egypt. As a result, four soldiers were killed: three Israeli soldiers and an Egyptian security officer.

Reuters writes about it. While the cause of the opening of fire is unknown, both countries are conducting a joint investigation into the incident.

“The deadly incident on the Egyptian border during Shabbat is serious and unusual and will be thoroughly investigated,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

According to the Israeli military, an Egyptian policeman shot and killed two soldiers guarding a military post on the border with Egypt. It happened early in the morning on June 3rd. Before that night, Israeli forces had successfully thwarted a smuggling attempt.

After two Israeli soldiers were found dead, the incident was initially dismissed as a terrorist attack.

A few hours later there was a clash in Israel. During it, a third Israeli soldier and an Egyptian officer were killed.

At the same time, the Egyptian military says that three Israeli soldiers and one Egyptian security official were killed during a firefight when an Egyptian officer was chasing smugglers moving across the border.

Note that the length of the border between Israel and Egypt is more than 200 km. For a long time, the situation in the border zone remained mostly calm.

Israeli officials say smuggling attempts in the border area have been frequent. However, the last illegal entry into the territory of Israel, which resulted in casualties, took place about ten years ago.

As GLOBAL HAPPENINGS reported, as a result of clashes in the city of Zvecany in the north of partially recognized Kosovo, peacekeepers of the North Atlantic Alliance as part of the KFOR mission and Serbs who protested under the administrative building because of the non-recognition of local elections were injured. Kosovo special forces opened fire on the Serbs from Kalashnikovs.
