A Chinese warship staged a provocation with the American destroyer USS Chung-Hoon. He approached the American ship by less than 150 meters.
The incident occurred during a joint US-Canadian mission in the Taiwan Strait, which the Indo-Pacific Command said was in accordance with international law. The video of the provocations was published by the Canadian channel Global News.
According to the Indo-Pacific Command, a Chinese warship approached a dangerous distance of 150 yards (137 meters) from the US destroyer USS Chung-Hoon, creating a collision threat. The incident occurred on June 3, when Chung-Hoon and the Canadian frigate HMCS Montreal, not in violation of international law, made a planned passage from south to north of the Taiwan Strait through waters where “freedom of navigation and overflight in the high seas operates.”
“During transit, the Chinese PLA destroyer (N) LUYANG III performed dangerous maneuvers in the Chung-Hoon area. The vessel overtook Chung-Hoon with its port side and crossed its bow at a distance of 150 yards (137 meters – ed.). Chung-Hoon destroyer. and slowed down,” the command said in a statement.
The second time the Chinese ship crossed the course of the American destroyer from starboard to port at a distance of 2000 yards (1828 meters) and remained on the side of her port side.
Recall, earlier it was reported that the head of US national intelligence said that China is preparing a military scenario against Taiwan. China could potentially use weapons against Taiwan in order to “attach” to its composition the territory that official Beijing considers its own. The authorities of the country prefer the diplomatic scenario, but they are also preparing a military one.
In the US, they do not say that hostilities cannot be avoided, nor do they indicate the time frame when a military scenario may unfold.
